Driver Interview

Just like many of the drivers that contact DB Kustom Trucks, Reo took his time watching our Facebook page and website before he sent us his request for a starter pack. In fact, it was about a year before he reached out for more information directly from us. He talked with Dave Brown, Co-Owner of DB Kustom Trucks, on the phone and was invited to come visit the shop and see the operation first hand. It also gave him the opportunity to ask as many questions as he could to make an informed decision about our lease to purchase program.

While visiting the shop, he noticed Dauntless, a 2007 Peterbilt 379 under construction. He told Dave then, that was the truck he wanted. From there the applications were filled out and submitted.

At the time of this interview, Reo and another driver were at the shop getting prepared for a run into Canada. This will be his first time hauling tank up north of the U.S. border.

He had some time to give us a little background on himself and how he's adjusting to life on the road in a DB Kustom Truck.

Interviewer ~ Can you give us some background on yourself?

Reo - I'm a married father of 4, that used to work in the oil fields.

Why did you choose the DB Kustom Truck program?

It was a long term goal of mine to own my own truck and make my dream come true.

You could have gotten a truck anywhere, why a DB Kustom Truck?

I had driven trucks in the past that weren't as reliable as I had hoped. I decided, why not get a custom truck for the same money as new this time around.

What's different about working with Quality Carriers compared to the oil fields?

The oil fields to me were like prison. Yes, there are regulations here, but you get a lot more freedom. I work hard, 7 days a week, but I have a lot of opportunity.

Have you called your mentor for advice since you've been in the truck?

Yes! I had a question about one of the loads I was asked to haul. I called Dave and talked it over. I took his advice and it turned out to be a very lucrative haul for me.

What is the best part about driving a DB Kustom Truck?

The brotherhood among the other DB Kustom drivers. There is a big sense of family that really helps when you're away from home.

Well, welcome to the family Reo.... we're happy to have you here.
